So Kontakt and Battery not only need the mapping done in FL's plugin wrapper, but you have to map the individual instruments and pads to the internal mixer for that plugin.įor example, Kontakt has an internal mixer. You do also have to handle some housekeeping inside those plugins. The mapping of these represent an offset in the FL mixer meaning that an output set to "-" will output to whichever mixer channel that plugin is originally assigned to (call this "home"), and any audio mapped to any other number will be set to the mixer channel using the formula "home" + offset If you open the plugin wrapper settings and go to Processing, you will see the inputs and outputs supported by the plugin. The Maschine stuff includes maschine specific presets, but also samples and synth presets you can use independently of Maschine - this is what I do. This isn't as tidy for writing patterns as method (2), but it has an advantage: you can assign the knobs and sliders in the MIDI Out to parameters of that individual instrument in Kontakt and use FL's right click context menu on those knobs/sliders to create automation clips. In this case, you would create a MIDI Out for each instrument in Kontakt, set each to the Kontakt port and then set the MIDI channel to the channel number assigned in Kontakt. (3) You can set the MIDI IN port for Kontakt and us FL's MIDI Out channel. This gives you the option of either layering the instruments all in the same pattern - you just lay out the corresponding colored notes - or using that single channel, you can split your instruments across multiple patterns. It's not the most efficient way and not recommended. (1) You can use different instances of Kontakt. First thing to know is that when you add an instrument to Kontakt, it automatically assigns that instrument the next available Midi Channel number (you can also manually change them). So if you have a folder in your NI sample library with 'maschine' in the title (e.g Maschine 2 Factory Library) that's full of normal wavs and stuff you can use in kontakt/kontrol/massive etc anyway. The Expansions were originally called 'Maschine Expansions' and aimed at users with the hardware, but later they dropped the 'maschine' part from the marketing, mainly as so little of it actually needed the maschine hardware to function (just the projects i think?). So for example if I want a loop from the 'Global Shake' expansion, its Ni Sample Library - Global Shake - Samples - Loops.Īnything that mentions "Machine" (from expansions) is referencing an actual piece of hardware, right? Most of these are from the various expansions kits for different genres, and are in subfolders under the relevant expansion name. You can also find the folder 'Native Instruments Sample Library' on your hard drive and then use the subfolders for the wavs to import directly to DAW, that's the easiest way I think. There's a few ways to do it, including through Kontakt and the Maschine software. Do I simply find the loops and assign these folders to FL Studio or are they associated to a specific instrument within Komplete (in the way Massive presets are automatically assigned)? I am not sure if Komplete 12 comes with the software actually, but check your Native Access to see if you can download it. The stuff that is for Maschine is predominantly used using the maschine hardware, but the hardware has a software component (also called Maschine) which you can use independently of the hardware in FL Studio which pretty much works the same way as the hardware. A) presets for some NI instruments - most commonly it is synth presets for Massive.ī) Samples and loops that you can use in Maschine and other samplers - though I don't know if FL studio will natively support them, I think they're wav files but they could be Native's own format, I can't remember.Ĭ) Drum kits for use in Maschine - these incorporate the synth presets and drum samples and loops, and have them arranged in patterns within Maschine, in genre appropriate beats and melodies.
